Show 307 Bull Frog Rapid was just below the mouth of Bull Frog Creek in Glen Canyon, another rapid was at the water pocket fold which is above the Escalante River. Being unfamiliar with map exhibit number 6, he is unable to locate the rapids on it. Another rapid was located as being at Hall's Creek and another at the mouth of Bridge Canyon, about eight and one- half miles below the mouth of the San Juan River. Besides the rapids mentioned there were other places where the water would speed up that he called riffles. Beyond the last rapid, trouble with grounding and running into sand bars was experienced down as far as Lee's Ferry. R. 806. " Q. Now, from that last rapid into Lee's Ferry, did you experience any difficulty with sand, grounding? " A. We would touch our boats - we would run on to sand bars which would check our speed; we had extra oars on the deck of the boat; we would loosen one of those and use that an a pole and try to push back up stream, the same way we had come in; they would stop us for a while; we would try to get back, and judge by the action of the water which way the current was going and which way it was turning, and try to follow that current." R. 807. Dellenbaughs Canyon Voyage as a guide book continued on own the river below Lee's Ferry. " Q. Give us the dates you were asked about yesterday. " A. Left Greenriver City. Wyoming, September |
