Show 297 There is a road that nearly parallels the river from McPherson's ranch to Greenriver, Utah. The water here was lively but wasn't especially dangerous and they made good time. Gray Canyon ends, he believes, between fifteen and twenty miles above Greenriver. R. 784. Immediately above Greenriver, the water is comparatively quiet. They found sand bars and islands in the middle of the river and channel on both sides. One of them would be deep and possibly one would be shallow and they would change. R. 785. " Q. Have any difficulty with the sandbars? " A. We would ground frequently, as we would back off as best we could; had an extra oar, and we would push the boat try to get back in the channel. R. 785. " Q. Between Green River, Wyoming, and Greenriver, Utah, did you meet any boats in that stretch of country? " A. Ranchers in different sections, in Brown's Park, had boats tied up to the shore. " Q. What kind of boats? " A. They were very hirriedly made, flat- bottom almost invariably; quite often the boards were nailed just across, and just took two boards and bent them for the sides and nailed these boards across. " Q. Did you meet any boats actually being operated on the river? " A. We didn't see anybody in a boat on the river. " Q. Didn't see any power boats? |
