Little trouble was experienced with sand bars between Greenriver and the mouth of the San Rafael but below the mouth of the San Rafael and down to the mouth of the Green River, considerable trouble with sand bars was experienced. The trip consumed from four to Five days in going from Greenriver down to the mouth of the Green River. R 727- 728. " Q. And in that stretch of the river are you able to tell me about how many sand bars you got stuck on? " A. No, I couldn't tell you; there was quite a number of them; I couldn't tell you. " Q. When you say quite a number, about how many do you mean? " A. Twenty- five, thirty, somewhere in there, anyway. " Q. When you got stuck on these sand bars how did you got off? " A. Have to got off and work around the boat; sometimes take a line, run it over where we could get it fast and make it tight on the capstan, and tighten it up, then work the current next to the bout and wash the sand away from it, get the current started and wash the sand away; then take shovels in the bed and start the water under it, then it would commence to wash. |
