Show 259 impossible, so far as we were concerned, with our equipment we might have had winches put on the banks and snubbed the boat and wound it up this place, but we didn't have those things, and it wasn't what we intended to do, anyhow, that is, it wasn't what we figured on was a practical scheme, at all. So we gave it up, and returned up to the Green River and started back to Greenriver, Utah. " Q. Now, just tell me about your trip up the Green River. " A. Well, we had a good deal of trouble getting up the Green River; we had all the swift water to fight; the river was very high at that time; it was probably the first run- off in the spring, and the river was very high; we would run up to where there was a sand bar show up in the river, and the channel would be on either side of the sand bar. " Q. Did you find those channels on the same side they were when you came down? " A. Some of them; some of them were moved; but it was a question then, in our mind, which channel to take to get back up there; sometimes we took the wrong channel. However, we would back up, and get into the other one, on the other side of the island. We had a lot of that kind of work, getting up as far as we came w: the boat."* R. 671- 672.* |
