Show Exercise, Leisure, and Physical Activities No Leisure-Time Physical Activity (Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System) Physical activity, particularly aerobic exercise, is well known for its health benefits, such as prevention of coronary heart disease. Those who do not exercise miss out on these benefits. When asked if they had engaged in physical activity during their leisure time in the previous month, 21.7% of Utah respondents reported that they had engaged in no physical activity. This means that almost 78% of Utahns report that they do engage in at least some physical activity. (Job-related physical activity is not counted.) The most popular forms of physical activity1 are walking, running (for men), aerobics (for women), and yard work. In 1992 only six states surpassed Utah by reporting more leisure-time physical activity. However, the national median appears to be improving while Utah's rates of those reporting no leisure-time physical activity have not changed significantly. *¦ Utah Department of Health Bureau of Health Promotion (1994).
