Show Motor Vehicle Crash Deaths (ICD-9Code: E810-E825) (1995 Total Motor Vehicle Crash Deaths in Utah = 330) The national and state age-adjusted mortality rate for motor vehicle crashes declined steadily between 1980 and 1995, but in 1994, Utah saw an increase in motor vehicle crash deaths, from 17.5 to 18.3 deaths per 100,000 people. Possible reasons for the national and local decreases from the 1980s may include increased seat belt use, improved highways, improved vehicle safety features, faster emergency response time, and improved driving habits. The decrease in Utah's mortality rates since 1985 may reflect the passage of the seatbelt law in the same year, as well as increasing awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving. Table 49.
