Show Measles (Cases in 1995 in Utah = 0) For seven of the last 14 years, Utah reports little to no incidence of measles. However, Utah and the nation had significant increases in measles rates for the years 1989, 1990, and 1991. In 1991 the number of measles cases reached the highest level since 1971. The most prevalent age group to contract measles in 1991 were those ages 5-19. From 1980 until 1988 it appeared that measles may have been contained. A national and statewide resurgence and subsequent decline in cases was then seen between 1988 and 1993. A significant resurgence in measles incidence was seen in 1994 in Utah. This may be explained by low vaccination rates. In 1995, Utah and the U.S. had no cases of measles. This is probably explained by higher vaccination rates. Measles primarily affects younger populations (age 19 or younger). However, since 1988, older individuals have made up to 10% of the total measles incidence. Table 57.
