Manuscripts to be considered for publication should be submitted to: Managing Editor, Utah's Health: An Annual Review, FHPF Center for Health Care Studies, 2120 Annex, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah 84112. Scope, Objectives, and Editorial Policy. Utah's Health: An Annual Review invites original contributions on all aspects of health, health care, and health care access and delivery as it pertains to the state of Utah. This includes such topics as wellness and prevention, public health, demographic factors connected with health, environmental factors impacting health, access, rural health care delivery, hospitalization and discharge, health care reforms, costs, expenditures and third-party payers, capitation, managed care, quality control, legal considerations for health and health care such as antitrust issues, life style, societal influences, nutrition and diet, etc. The primary objective of the Articles and News and Notes sections of Utah's Health is to publish work contributing to the understanding of the relationships between health and well-being, Utah's citizens, employers, and health care delivers. Ethical obligations are the responsibility of the authors who submit manuscripts. Manuscript Categories. Manuscripts may be submitted as articles, notes, communications, or reviews. _ Articles are definitive, comprehensive accounts of significant studies. _ Notes are definitive reports whose scope is more limited than that of articles; however, they are subject to the same editorial appraisal as articles and should be of similar quality. The length of notes should be no longer than two journal pages (~8 manuscript pages) and have a format identical to that of articles. _ Communications are intended for preliminary reports on important findings and issues of a contemporary and timely significance. Manuscripts are limited to approximately 1500 words. _ Reviews should be retrospective analysis that provide fresh insights. Preparation of Manuscripts. Manuscripts should be double spaced on one side only on 22 x 28 cm (8.5 x 11 in) paper. Minimum acceptable type size is 12 characters per inch. Tables, footnotes, and references should be double spaced. All pages should be numbered consecutively starting with the title page and continue in the following order: abstract, text, references, tables, figures. Any supplementary material should be attached at the end of the manuscript and the pages numbered separately. Authors should write in clear, concise English using grammar and standard nomenclature that is unambiguous and consistent, conforming with current American usage. Responsibility for all aspects of manuscript preparation rests with the authors. Extensive changes or rewriting of the manuscript will not be undertaken by the editors. The rationale and objectives of the article should be stated in the introductory sentences of the manuscript. Background material should be brief and relevant to the topic described. Authors should state their conclusions or the significance of their article following the discussion of findings. Conclusions should be summarized in order to place the authors' observations in proper perspective. Manuscript submission. Manuscripts prepared with WordPerfect or Microsoft Word can be used for production by adhering to the following guidelines. Documents prepared with other word-processing packages will be handled on an experimental basis with the understanding that the use of these files in production cannot be guaranteed. Four hard copies of the manuscript are required for review. A disk should accompany the final accepted version of the manuscript. The version on the disk MUST match exactly the final version of the hard copy. With reviewers' comments, the Managing Editor will include for the primary author's signature a copyright transfer form. When preparing the manuscript, use the document mode or its equivalent in the word processing program. Do not include any page-formatting instructions. The text should be unjustified. References should conform the format providedin References and Notes. Label the disk with the primary author's last name. Provide the name and version of the software used. All text and tabular material (if applicable) should be in one file with the complete text first followed by the tabular material. Do not integrate graphic material into this file.
