Show Prostate Cancer (ICD-9Code: 185.0-185.9) (1994 Total Deaths in Utah = 180) Utah's incidence rate for prostate cancer continues to be significantly higher than the rate for the United States. Between 1981 and 1990, Utah's incidence rate showed a 57% increase while the national rate rose by only 43%. Utah prostate cancer mortality rates have remained similar to the national rates since 1981. There has been a dramatic increase in prostate cancer incidence since 1990. Improvements in the diagnosis of prostate cancer, including the introduction of the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test may account for much of this increase. Increased use of other screening methods may also have contributed to this increase in incidence. Table 34.
