Show 411 was encountered by the Moab Garage boat, although it was delayed at times by sand bars for short intervals. From Moab, he went to Thompson and then to Salt Lake City. About the first of February of the following year he went back to get his boats and for the purpose of trapping beaver on the Grand River for the State of Utah. In trapping he worked up stream from Lockhart to Moab. " Q. Did you find the channel in the Colorado River between Moab and the mouth of the Green to be the same on both your trips? " A. Well, practically, yes; I found that the sand bar conditions were about the same - interchangeable; you never could tell just where you had a current; good many cases you would have a current and then if you had an occasion to be at the same place again within twenty- four hours you would find that current wasn't there at all, shifted over just a little " Q. What do you mean by the channel? " A. Well, I mean this, a man going up or down stream, he would try to keep into a channel where he can navigate. You may think you have it - with a sand bar condition you may think you have that channel; you will go on up a little, and find maybe you have got to go back down around and hunt a point that comes around like that and breaks straight off; may be you will have to come down one hundred feet; along the edge of that it will only be naturally deep; if you should step off you would go in over your head, maybe; above |
