Show The heads H ^ are computed as a linear function of the annual pumpages Qwv using the response matrices, as described by equation 3.2. Response matrices for head determination were not computed for 55 years after pumping starts. As was noted earlier, the aquifer reaches steady state with uniform pumping after approximately 10 to 11 years. Response matrices generated for the 10 year period in Chapter 3, along with the definition of the region of influence of each well were used in the applications in this chapter. - The resulting formulation is a composite of the formulations presented in Chapters 3 and 5, and reflects conjunctive use of ground and surface water through the yield failure probability variables. After an analysis of the surface water records, potential reservoir yield failures were considered for years 2 through 12, and years 25 through 35 of the 55 year record. This leads to 22 qfy variables, 8 Ms variables, 1 GR variable, and 605 Qwv variables ( corresponding to 11 well nodes and 55 years). This is a total of 636 decision variables. Eighty two constraints ( 8 total storage, 8 final active storage, 55 groundwater demand and 11 head maintenance) and bounds on each variable were specified. Clearly the groundwater part of the formulation dominates the size of the problem. Solutions to the nonlinear optimization model were once again obtained using the PSLP algorithm. The data set used for the two applications performed was the same as in Chapters 3, 5 and the previous section. Results from these applications are presented in Tables 7.8 and 7.9. Figures 7.2 shows the results for the degree of yield failure for both demand levels and for the selected years.
