Show implementation with the reservoir and conjunctive use screening models follows the linked simulation- optimization formulation developed in Chapter 5. The intention is to develop optimal sizes, and as a by- product, operation rules through simulation of reservoir operation, subject to candidate values for reservoir yield and yield reliability as specified at each iteration of the optimization model. A compact, and hopefully, computationally efficient formulation is thus maintained. The basic principles demonstrated by the stretched thread method - dependence of operation rules on past and future inflows, and on reservoir empty and full conditions, are implicitly satisfied through the sequent peak simulation and subsequent rule curve derivation. The utility of the linked simulation- optimization formulation in readily accommodating variations in the specification of operation rules and in the degree of complexity of the system's characteristics ( e. g. inclusion of groundwater) is demonstrated. 163 |
