One of them told me, he said, You ~ always were the worst snob in II the world. So I learned something about myself that I proibably knew and wouldnL admit it. Maybe I was and maybe I still ~. And I think she said, you still are. And maybe with some justification. I wouldn't be surprised. So. You mentioned selling H ------ in the 60s. I don't understandthe busines world that well. So youre involvement is on the board. S I'm chairma~ of the board;which is when you are-- when you don't contribute antyhing much, they make you chairman of the board. Not the chief executive officer. That's the main thing. But, oh, my presence here now is strictly-- it's a personal thing that contributes very much to the store and people in the town I think thye've forgotten~hat we've soldout. T_h, ey still ... They still think we're in it. And very often, I think! do too;except:when I go out the door. I say to myself, thank goodness I don't own it anymore. So thatl can leave when I want to and my time is myown. But anyway, we I still act as if I owned it.I think on the basis of service and quality and that sort of thing and the contributions that I can make in that way. And sometimes they even accept my advi6e. ~ ~ I still j feel very much apart. L How doe~t feel to be one of the last jWish merchant in sl. S I'll tell you it's kind of sad. We've had some wonderful stores .. Auerbachs, old, old store. And Fine people thattoward the end, I helped in working out L s in ~~ the United Jewish Appea~ because they were sort of out of the jewish community tooJas we are now. And The Paris is out, is gone. That was the~imon br~A~~5 in those days.And we had the L&A i( · ~ , an old old family 0 Billy RiceJtris the in the advertising business1whose father~ts also a rabbi. I was confirmed by ),....( J..-:~ his father. And they had--his mother was a Cohen ,~a rather large JJ. Gept. Z ~I store. And Makeoffs, did I mention Makeoffs. And those were~the best stores in town. And we're the only one left. And this is left fundamentally;without bragging too much J because of my presence here1 -rtf-'~t deal to do with that. AT both the feeling infue town and when there was$ nobody and this will sound very braggadocio)but I'm very proud of it .. 9ut we were 2nd to none in reputation and integrity and honor in the business community of ~alt lake. And state wide. As a matter of fact, it had tnd still has a great reputation. We ~e very good people. I'm sure youwtre. I only know two of you. ~ti.J I call ker my baby sister you know, t~l~.a~A~8~ my 63 year old baby sister. I don't think she minds it.
