And I remember my father was in Vernal, my father and rnother,andosornebody had called him, I guess, and said , h r•"'' • Harry had run away again. And they drove4 And my other brother ran away, he went to California to work. And Sally went away to school, I guess, ~ "- .. , ... 1920 or so. So I was only 15 years old. So we really at a very young age were split for various reasons 1 either school or brother went away to work and ~~ because of my brotehr Harry was in the World War I. He had joined the army before he was old enough really, but he got permission. So that was/~~~RREdkind of relationship very early in our family. ,.,- , . . And then Helen, as I said she carne alongA12 years or more later i than I did , so that when she was growingup, I was away at school and then got married and-- but we all remained very close. Helen and her family come out to our house now, even almost every day. t~ ~> in the summer time, you know swimming, her children and grandchildren. And; our married lives)we've all been really close. L So growing up as a family, even bough there were age differences, what kinds of things did you do as a family. S Picnicsl Picnics.' Loads of picnics in the summertimel Various canyons around. And Sara~oga Springs when weUvisi~ relatives who lived in small towns like :~ Tooele and Nephi. And we~got out to dinner. [remember restaurants] Well, the thin~at made the most impression on me wg~the Hotel Utah. Which I thought was real i elegant. And they had the Saltair, you know, the big resort on~reat Salt Lake)And they had what they called a Ship Cafe that I thought was very elegant. '-""" L What was that like. S ALmost likethe hotel. Black waters and bus boys and very glamorous1 at least I thought it was. God, ~ now I probably wouldn't even go in it. And -- I remember restaurants out in small towns that wre famous in their day1 like Beefstead ~P'!).,tl'il/~ ;/. wor 1 Harrison in Spring Valley that I ~bought was ~ 1 ds most marvelous ~,;A 0"/1/L steak.
