Show Winding up an eventful basketball season, the Redskin squad finished in third place in the Western Athletic Conference. Fresno State was the first opponent to fall to the Ute quint, 98-89. Loyola of Los Angeles dropped the second game to Utah, 94-77. The Bengal Tigers of the University of Pacific joined the ranks of the defeated as they fell, 90-72. The defeated list grew as Utah rolled past the ninth game of the season un beaten. Texas A & M, St. Mary s, Washington State, Rice, New Mexico State and St. Johns toppled under an outstanding Ute offense. Vil-Ianova broke the winning streak as the Redskins fell apart, 75-82. Utah grabbed the next two games from St. Josephs and Cincinnati, but Utah State was the fly in the ointment as the ramblin' Redskins lost 72-84. Wyoming and New Mexico gave Utah a tough time but the Redskins pulled ahead to win both games by one and two points, respectively, The Utes left Conference play for a trip to Hawaii to meet the University of Hawaii in a double-header. Showing hospitality to the visiting Utah squad, the Hawaiians beat the Utes by 17 points in the first game and then crumpled under the Redskins, 67-61, in the second game. |
