Show Founders Day honors outstanding alums and retiring U President Glen M. Hatch, president of the Alumni Association, presided as Master of Ceremonies over the Founders' Day Banquet which commemorated the 114th anniversary of the University of Utah. After the dinner, the four honored alums receiving the alumni awards were announced. A painting of Mt. Timpanogos was presented to President and Mrs. A. Ray Olpin by the Alumni Association and the Emeritus Club. The painting was especially appropriate for the President and his wife since both were born and reared near the mountain. The guest speaker, Dean Eyring of the Graduate School, gave a humorous account of President Olpin's efforts to recruit faculty members to the University and commended the retiring president for his devotion and dedication to the advancement of the University during the past eighteen years. Alums pay tribute to President Olpin and present bim with an oil painting of the Mount Timpanogos area. 199 |
