Show Overflowing crowds evidence success of Challenge Week Former governor Ross Barnett gestures emphatically as he makes a point regarding the Negro in the South during a clasroom lecture. University students met the major issues o f the day in the areas of creativity, population, civil rights, disarmament and automation in a week dedicated to Challenge 1964. Southern viewpoints on the the Negro and segregation were contrasted by former governor of Mississippi Ross Barnett and Dr. James Nebrit, president, Howard University, while the moral and biological aspects of birth control were discussed by Dr. Gregory Pincus and the Reverend John Thomas. Lecturers ranged from Dr. Waldemer Read speaking on "Learning is a Risky Business to Sydney Harris discussing "The Dilemmas of Man." Political problems were aired in speeches by visiting Congressmen from New York, Nebraska and Idaho. Challenge chairman Price checks final plans with guest speaker, former governor of Mississippi.
