Show Babcock Theater The Babcock Theater, named for Maude May Babcock, a founder of the University's Theater Department, offers a place for intimate, experimental theater where the acting, costumes, scenery, and lighting are all done by students. This year's season offered five varied productions. An original play, "This Little Pig Went to Market," was written by a student, Elizabeth Yelland. It was a contemporary comedy about the aspirations of three young people. A comedy that epitomized the chase and quick scene changes was the next production, "Italian Straw Hat." A change of pace was brought to the following play. "The Caretaker," an example of theater of the absurd, was a powerful drama about the subtleties of human relationships. Comedy again reigned in the last two productions, "Chekhov on Marriage" and a spoof on operettas, "Little Mary Sunshine." Chris Hall pauses in "This Little Pig Went To Market. Elizabeth Yelland and Michael Sharp in "This Little Pig." The whole cast dances in a scene from "Italian Straw Hat." Kissing Cousins" in "Italian Straw Hat.' 121 |
