Show FraternitiesThe Fall Line of Guff at the Fraternity HousesSIGMA CHITake a slant of this pile of brown brick, some house, eh Guthrie? We're the only fraf on the campus that can accommodate so many men in one house-thirty-six I think, unless a few have laid down the burden of college life lately. No fraternity on the campus has the distinction of ever having had a man who1 amounted to a heck and still lived. We are that gang. Our Chinaman makes the test pie this side of Chicago. Here polka dot take the button or leave it here.PI KAPPA ALPHALook at the Utonian. The editor is a member of our boys' club. He ran our table in University Club style on part of the money he cleaned up. Lew Gardner, that guy over there with the badly mutilated cigar in his face, pulled the best Prom since last year. He only made $100 this year though. "We have members from Hyrum, Beaver, Helper, California, Idaho and Salt Lake City enrolled. What's more we pull a party every year and pay our bill in between. If you are not picked up by next week drop around.BETA THETA PILook at our athletes! Mac has copped four letters. George Williams is also a Beta-grab him Babe before he gets out-hit him with a chair you boob before he gets a look at the other bunches.PHI DELTA TRETAHave a cigarette? Baird's manual says we are some frat. We were founded a long time ago but I have forgotten the exact date, about the same time William J. Bryan discovered America I think. Have another cigarette? Crouch, Wright and Professor Done are all Phi Delts and darn good men besides. Our boys have big hearts and we know we can make a man of you. Have another cigarette! Ever shoot pool? No? Grab the button young fellow you might be able to stick, it out.PHI ALPHA EPSILONCan you come around tomorrow? We have a lot of studying" to do today. Our bunch is about to request S. A. E. to join us. By the way, Sigma Alpha Epsilon is the biggest national in the world outside of the U. S. You look like a good man; funny you haven't been rushed by the other frats. Spooks Sutton and Harold Groesbecks used to be P. A. E.'s but they resigned. Anyway we have Slim Parry and Pat Smith left. Well think it over old boy. "We'll give you until next December to decide. In the meantime you're as welcome around here as a fly in the soup.Testimonial of a RusheeSalt Lake City, Utah, Oct. 15, 1915.Dear Seth:I am going to tell you some of my experiences since I came, to the University. Just as I was about to enter the Administration building several nice looking, well dressed fellows came up to me and introduced themselves. Before many words had been spoken I found out they were Beta Theta Pi's. They helped me to' register and then took me to their fraternity house to lunch. At the house I met many other Beta's and was very favorably impressed with them. In the first place, they were all so modest and retiring. None of them even ventured to enlarge upon their own virtues. Again, they were so kindly in their attitude to the other fraternities, using nothing but the highest terms in speaking of them. After lunch we went back to the campus and while we were standing around, another person joined the crowd. The Beta's were so friendly and so anxious that I should meet him that I naturally concluded he was one of the Sigma Chi's. I was urged to accept his invitation to the Sig house that night, so I accepted. That evening some fellows called for me and took me over to the Sig house. There I met a good many fellows and "was impressed by their scholarly behavior. I later found that they were by far the best students in the school. Some of them, however, seemed to think they were great ladies' men. This did not appeal to me.After school had been going a couplet of weeks, the Pi Kappa Alphas began to rush, and I was invited to their house. There I met most of the prominent men of the school, the majority of whom were from the rural and outlying districts (even as you and I).In addition to1 these I found that there is an A. P. frat, which is busy trying to be installed into Phi Delta Theta. There are a great many athletes (Mexican) in this crowd. There is also a Phi Alpha, Epsilon club which is torn by internal dissention, and is undergoing a reconstruction and formation period. Someone jocularly called them, the "Pa,y-As-You-Enters." Whether there is any significance in this I can't' say.Well, you can see what a dilemna I am in. I don't know what one to try and make. One day I think it will be the modest Betas, another the scholarly Sigs, another the prominent Pi Kaps, and so on. When I write again I hope it will be settled. Remember me to your sister, Liz, and tell her I long for a, good old Sunday evening in the old front room in Lehi.Yours up in the air,ANYOLD SONOPAGUN.Page two hundred sixty-one |
