Show \LJXAJH*The University of UtahALTHOUGH the University of Utah has been in existence for more than half a century, there is still in evidence a perceptible spirit of unrest. This spirit is characteristic of youth. Restless as the college may appear at times, no grave fear need be entertained as to its1 future possibilities. Into the life of this institution, while yet in its infancy, has been ingrained the vitalizing- principle of an unceasing search for truth and a fearless expression thereof. With such a training as a basis for further evolution there is no power sufficiently strong to destroy the tissue which gave this social organism its life. Its days of infancy are over. Flushed "with the confidence of youth, it is only natural that its conduct at times is somewhat erratic. But as the University becomes enriched through experience, there will unconsciously develop a steadiness of purpose that will result in a more perfect realization or its Ideals. Those of us who have formed an integral part of this institution have no doubt been affected by the somewhat strange interaction of forces. At times we have been disturbed by a lack of intense intellectual atmosphere. We have witnessed sudden reactions in "which have appeared a powerful hand of censorship and we have viewed with astonishment the absence of a respect for authority. Such a varied state of unrest, however, does not indicate a perverted organization, for confusion is invariably the accompaniment to formative periods. Confidence in the natural evolution of things should avoid any repressive or restraining measure. Time alone can effect that working harmony of the parts which will best accomplish the University of Utah's one great task-^service to the state.¦.1Page twenty-one |
