Show Heading Utah's coaching staff is personable Jack Curtice. Under "Pappy's" able tutelage the Utes won the conference championship in his second year at our hilltop school. Curtice learned his football at Transylvania U where he set a national touchdown passing record. He came to Utah from Texas Western College. Curtice brought to Utah a type of wild and wooly offense never before seen in the mountain area. V ... iJt ^p All smiles for coaching a championship team are Billy Jefferson, Henry Piro, Frank Brickey, Jack Curtice, Karl Schleckman, and Pete Carlston. Head man Jack Curtis Assisting Curtice in masterminding the team were Karl Schleckman, Frank Brickey, Henry Piro, Billy Jefferson, and Pete Carlston. Schleckman, a former all-conference tackle, serves in the capacity of line coach. Brickey won his spurs at Arizona State in '28. The backfield men learn their lessons from him. Piro came to Utah via the citadel, the Air Force, and pro ball. He now teaches the ends the tricks of the game. Carlston graduated from Utah in '34. He now adds polish to the freshmen greenies. Jefferson was a former ace for Mississippi State and the Detroit Lions. His official job is assistant freshman coach but unofficially he is the general flunky of the staff. It was through the efforts of these men that we added another championship cup to our case. 336 |
