Show THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH MESSAGE FROM MARTHA BRADLEY-EVANS One of the magical elements of a research university is the opportunity students have to engage in the production of new knowledge with scholar teachers in chemistry labs or dance studios, in an architectural design studio or biomedical engineering lab. The range is immense and rich, the possibilities literally limitless. We congratulate you on your decision to make research a core component of your undergraduate education. W e know that the insights, skills, competencies and ambitions you developed through the process will set you up for success in graduate school, in your professional life, and will help you make an impact. Graduates of a research university hold the future in their hands. You will discover new treatments for disease and inspire socially responsible ways of living on this planet. W e encourage you to work for a more humane, equitable and just world. W e believe in the transformative power of education and of research to impact positively the human condition. Again, congratulations on your amazing accomplishments. The diversity of topics, methods, and approaches demonstrated in the pages of this journal attest to the creativity, imagination and quality of research you have done. W e salute your fine efforts.
