Sxn: I have the honor to submit the fullawing aa my ninth aunual report of the con-dition and progrw of this sgincy and the Indians under my oharge: It is gratifying to be able M regort the continued kindly disposition, good eondoct, and industrial habits of our Iodiaus. With few exceptions it is believed they will oompsrefavorably with any other in theservice, especially when the amount of encoor-agenmnt and support theyreoeive from the government is considered! Anxim~sa 8 we are to make n goodshowing as to numbers, we cannot report as many as we did Inst year, viz, 430; the number this year being only 402. The ditfarence he-tween the births and deaths will not account for it.. We know of several, with their fsrulliea, whoeome here occasionally, hot spend mmtof their time elsewhere. These we bave not eonnted this year, which accoonts to some ertemt far the dlfferenae. Though thenomher of birthssnd deathsdonot show an increase, yet our theory irr that they IW now incressingin numbers, and thetthe decresaeisaocoonted for bg the rejection from onr count of thme who spend ~n a sot f their time elsewhere, and the greater diBcutly in getting the number of births than the number of deaths.
