After we had explained to them, they took an active part in Red Cross, bond purchasing and other activities, The Utes though numbering at the present time but 341 have purchased o70,000 worth of bonds, which I believe compares very favorably with the a c t i v i t i e s of any tribe throughout the country, My belief is that the sole salvation of the Southern Ute is that • u n e shall cultivate his own allotment; that he shall surround himself with the necessary tools and implements to work it, as he shall have a comfortable home both for himself and his family, and in this way will work out his own salvation and become an active factor in building of the community in which he lives, instead of drawing upon the resources of the Government. |
