Show One feature of the home production that I believe should be emphasized, not only among these Indians, but among nearly every other tribe, is the production of Belgian Hares. About a year and a half ago i started my eight year old boy with three does and the male, ^ ince that. ti.. e, besides having abundance of meat for our own family, he has purchased seventy- five dollars worth of V/ ar Stamps and started twenty- five other boys in the keeping rabbits by selling them; a pair for a dollar. Host of these have been Indian boys. One - particularly whom I visited a short time ago has about forty rabbits at the pre? nit ti~;, e. - Lhese furnish the best of meat. They have a beneficial effect upon the b. ys and girls to teach the proper care of pets, and are quite a factor in showing Indians and others the undecirebleness of dogs which destroy them. I believe that every ayenc: should encourage the Indians and Others in keeping these animals. It tends to create a certain interest in the hearts of the children and older ones for their homes, that ' is not furnished by other means. |
