And after he does, Wonder Woman negotiates her way to working with him in a secretary position in the War Department in Washington, D.C, a building distinguished as such by a WAR DEPARTMENT plaque near the sidewalk, and which can be infiltrated at any time by a Nazi spy dressed as the "cleaning lady" and armed with sleeping gas. The secretary position provided Wonder Woman with inside information, as well as a vantage point to watch and protect Captain Trevors, a hyper-masculine, necessarily stupid man who greets his friends by saying, "I haven't seen you since you threw me the touchdown pass in the Rose Bowl!" Steve always tries to do the right thing without over-thinking, usually being captured in the process and requiring Wonder Woman's rescue. However, his relationship to Wonder Woman is not one of one-upmanship; on the contrary, despite his own perceived role as protector, he is grateful for Wonder Woman's help in "the fight against evil," is enamored with her strength and wisdom and is willing to follow her. He calls Wonder Woman his "beautiful angel" and respects Diana, though he |
