Show 1063 FRANK BARNES For Complainant ( R. Vol. 13, pp. 2529- 2550) He resides at 1609 East Florence Avenue, Los Angeles, California. He is at present captain of one of the sheriff's details; has followed as an occupation for the last several years, that of a peace officer. Prior to that time he served a term in the U. S. Navy and was also connected with some mining companies. He has had one year's experience in operating boats in the U. S. Navy, one year at Galveston [ Texas], where he was captain of a yacht, and has had some experience on the Colorado River. He also has had some experience on the Mississippi River He first came to Utah in the San Juan country in 1908 at Bluff, Utah, and remained there until 1918. R. 2529- 2530. He has been down the San Juan River below Bluff to what is known as Spencer's camp, he believes, about thirty miles up from its junction with the Colorado River. During the time he was in and around the San Juan country he saw row boats cross the river a few times. He has seen about two boats going down the San Juan River, but nothing up. He made a trip in a flat- bottom row boat from about four miles above Bluff to the mouth of Comb Wash, opposite Chinle Creek, in the latter part of July or the first of August.
