Show 1046 " A Yes, got more efficiency out of our power." R. 2448. " BY MR. FARNSWORTH: " Q On this tunnel drive, the effect of that was to take all the water out from under the rear end of the boat and have it drop clear down? " A Yes, the boat was built with a tunnel inside, the idea being you could go over the bars without the propeller digging into the sand, which was a good idea in salt water, where the boat was built. " But over there, when dug the water out there was nothing to get in the tunnel; your wheel runs in water. " BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: " Q It was a good idea if it worked? " A Yes, if it worked. " BY MR. FARNSWORTH: " Q How far down would that rear end drop on those occasions? " A Drop down? " Q What would be its draft? " A The rear end wouldn't drop any more than the depth of the water, if we were trying to get over a shallow sandbar, because the water wasn't swift there; the boat would come along and kick all the water out; you couldn't go, because there was no water for the wheel to take hold in. The water couldn't get in to the tunnel, being built up under the boat. " THE SPECTAL MASTER: A propeller doesn't work if there is no water. " MR. FARNSWORTH: I would say it would be a little difficult. " THE SPECIAL MASTER: That is all." R. 2485- 2486. |
