Show We tried not to leave any trash behind but what little we did were left in a pile for the Zuni Rangers to pick it up. We did not see any Ranchers on our way there and back that I could remember. The route was flagged part of the way since I ran out of flagging. The burned area (#43), including a section of Mr. Piatt's fence was visible from the air during our helicopter reconnaissance in July, 1986. The group follows a route back to the northeast joining that portion of the trail on which they came towards Kolhu/wala:wa in section section 28, T. 15 N., R. 28 E. They follow the same trail back, past the first night camping spot, cross Highway 666 and reach the third night camping spot. From there they pass up the Zuni River Valley the following day, making offerings at each of the four sacred springs. On the evening of June 17, 1985, the pilgrims came into the Zuni village and began to perform the long dances that follow the pilgrimage. - 173 - |
