Show The safe annual yield appears to be sufficient to supply all contemplated diversions to the Navajo Indian Irrigation Project, Hammond Project and all committed industrial and municipal demands with a shortage-free supply. Animas - La Plata Project The flow of the Animas River at Farmington, New Mexico was assumed to be reduced by the proposed diversions for the Animas-La Plata Project, Florida Project and present and contemplated municipal and agricultural uses in the vicinity of Farmington. The average annual remaining flow of the Animas River under the assumptions used would supply uses on the San Juan River for Kirtland and Hogback Irrigation Projects and various industrial uses. The residual flow of the Animas River, together with the estimated return flows in the San Juan River from irrigation and municipal and industrial uses, would be more than enough to satisfy present and authorized irrigation demands and municipal and industrial uses on the San Juan River downstream from Farmington, New Mexico. Forecasts of Stream Flow Forcasts of water supply have not been made by the Engineering Department, nor have any findings of fact pertaining to water deliveries or stream depletions been made. Forecasts of stream flow made by various other agencies are to be found in the files of the Commission. Research The Bureau of Economic Research and High Altitude Observatory of the University of Colorado and the Engineering Research Division of Colorado State University are engaged in a research project dealing with "Past and Probable Future Variations in Stream Flow in the Upper Colorado River." On December 10, 1959 the Engineering Committee met with representatives of these agencies to receive a report on their program. Members of the research staff explained the work that had been accomplished and discussed work that needed to be done. There are three parts to the research program as follows: (a) Placing climatological data on punch cards and subjecting it to statistical analyses. (b) Scientific statistical analyses of stream flow data. (c) Study of the behavior of weather as influenced by activities of the upper atmosphere and solar phenomena.
