Q And how did you get off those sandbars? A With levers. Q With what? A With levers, and at times we would have to dig and try to catch the water to out us out on the shallow part; the boat would drift up on the slopes and kill the water. We would dig a little bit, get out and dig a little way under the upper side, get the current cutting under it so we could turn her around; we used the ropes to shore there, too, I remember, to pull us around. Q What are those levers you speak of? A Just small poles, tress, three or four inches in diameter, not too big to handle. Q Did practically the same situation exist in Still-water canyon? A All the way where we had sandbars; the sandbars are the whole way of Stillwater and Labyrinth canyon. Q On this trip with the City of Moab did you go down to the Cataracts? A Yes, I think we did; I am not positive whether we went below the junction; I believe we did, too; we had a good |
