Q On the trip down did you make any soundings to ascer-tain the depths? A Yes sir. Q How of ten did you take these soundings? A Oh, usually if the water looked very shallow we would sound all the time, constantly, with a stick; sometimes we would send a man ahead where the water looked very doubtful, with a row boat, to take soundings, and wait for him to get through, to hunt a channel to get through, before we would try it. Q When you got down to the junction of the Green river, then where did you go with the Undine? A Well, we camped there several days, and explored around a little bit; some remains of the Cliff Dwellers there yet on that bottom; then returned back up to Colorado about five miles to the forks back up the river.
