Show 6191 4183 Nye- D Q Could you tell us approximately how many days you used in going from Greenriver to the mouth of the San Rafael? A Three days: had the most trouble at the mouth of the San Rafael swell, where we had to wade the stream several times, and had to drag the boat over the rocks, over the gravel, to get it down stream at that point, because the channels were so divided it was very difficult to find one continous channel where the boat would float. We had a very difficult time, the most difficult time at that point. At another point, where the channel made a sharp curve, our boat nearly turned over, due to the swiftness of the current and trying to make the sharp curve and keep the boat pointed down stream. Q Tell me about the progress of your boat from the mouth of the San Rafael down to the junction. A There was only one riffle between that point and the junction, but it wasn• ft very bad. That riffle, as I remember it, was seven or eight miles, something on that order, above the junction; but we had great deal of difficulty getting stuck rather, avoiding getting stuck on sandbars, and we were in the water a good part of the time, trying to find continuous channels along in that stretch.
