Q And came back to the junction, then went up to the Colorado? A Went up what was the Grand river then; went to Moab. Q Did you have any difficulty on that trip up to Moab? A Yes sir. Q Whereabouts? A Well, the first trouble we hit, -- I believe we hit a sandbar before we got to the gorge there, the gorge about three miles, I should judge, up from the fork, where the river is very narrow, little swift water at that time through there, made very slow headway. Q From that point on up to Moab did you encounter any difficulties in the operation of the boat? A Some sandbars, some few sandbars we struck; we would strike them to the lower side so it didn't give us much trouble. Q Just what do you mean by that? A The sandbars are always built downstream, the water carries them down; then they have a shoulder on the downstream |
