Berkeley, Cal., June 27th, 2905. <br><br> My dear Mr. Sweazey, <br><br> If this reaches you before you send the vouchers for the June salaries on to the Board will you kindly enclose the letter to Mr. Olin which I am sending to you and also send on my voucher for July. <br><br> I am finding expenses here more than I had counted on and I am in dire need of some money. I had to go to San Francisco this morning and pawn some things in order to get money to buy some small weights and a platinum crucible which I had to have for the Chemistry work. I should have started the Chemistry work this morning, but I did not have these things and no money to buy them. I am starting a course in Quantitative analysis. It is a sort of go as you please course. The instructor told me that if I worked hard I would be able to accomplish about the equal of a half year's work. I have 8-12 in the laboratory every morning. And I am to spend from 1 to 4 in the Mineralogy. I have not been to any regular work yet so I can not tell you how I like it, but will write later, <br><br> Sincerely, <br><br> S.
