Show Winning top honors and trophies were Kit West, Joyce Durham, Katherine Harper. Back row: Bob Bennett and Dale Johnson. Judging and running tournaments were jobs of debators Barbara Hickman, Allen Mortensen, Mr. Adamson, Gary Park, Martin Zachreson. Joyce Durham delivered many heated rebuttals. Debate was an art as well as an activity. We read pamphlets en stabilization, learned of the evils of inflation, and discovered that "we were better off." After much study numerous practice debates, and co-operative pooling of information, we felt that we could adequately debate the question, "resolve, that the Federal Government should adopt a permanent program of price and wage controls." We started the year off by playing host for the Rockie Mountain Forensic meet and later on we journeyed to Fresno, Denver, Linfield, Georgetown, Montana, Carbon, B. Y. \J., and West Point for forensic debate tournaments. We boarded the crowded bus ladened down with books relating to price and wage controls, debate cards, and battered file cases. We revised our cases as we munched our sandwiches and pot-luck treats. After the long ride and sleepless nights we reached our destination only to find that we were registered in extemporaneous and impromptu speaking, or interpretation, George Adamson proved to be an able coach of the debate activities. |
