Show -2- constructed or are being constructed by the United States for the diversion and delivery of water to other lands situate in the County of Yuma, State of Arizona and to the lands hereinafter referred to and located within the boundaries of the Applicant District. 2. The amount of water which the Applicant District intends to apply to beneficial use is the annual beneficial consumptive use of 300,000 acre feet for irrigation purposes. 3. The point of diversion is the eastern end of the Imperial Dam located on the Colorado River approximately 18 miles northeast of the City of Yuma, County of Yuma, State of Arizona. Description of Works 4. Diversion Works: (a) Diversion will be by gravity at the Imperial Dam. The dam is a slab and buttress type with ogee overflow spillway and gate-controlled canal headings. The dam has an overall length of 3,475 feet, crest length for the overflow section of 1,198 feet, structural height of 31 feet for the weir and 47 feet for non-overflow sections, and a base width of 75.5 feet. Construction of the dam by the United States, acting through the Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Reclamation, was begun on December 18, 1935 and completed in July, 1938. (b) The Gila Canal Head Works, through which this water will be diverted, are located between the Arizona abutment and spillway section and contain three outlet units, each with three radial gates 35.7 feet by 14.5 feet. The outlet section in use connects with a desilting basin which is approximately 1200 feet long, 115 feet wide |
