Show I-ty dear Wendell: I can hardly guess where on the Globe you may be at present. So I am writing to headquarters in ITew York, Since my return from Sinai I also spent a month in certain Middle East countries with a full schedule. I hope there will be no Immediate call for me to go abroad for a while as I have many arrears on hand in Egypt. A few days ago, a welcome ietter arrived from Prof. Albright to tell me that the publication of my Arabic Mt. Sinai Microfilm volume is now within sight in 43i® Hbhns Hopkins University Press. This is certainly good news since so long a time has lapsed since the Expedition, and it is almost high time for us to start thinking seriously of a new project. In reality, now that our Higher Institute of Coptic Studies is beginning to take shape for opening in the early fall* we shall have a very fine expeditioning center in Cairo. I am creating amongst its various sections one devoted to Sthiopic Studies which ought to serve very well in the Lake Tana project. Meanwhile, we can do more microfilming in either the Monasteries of the Red Sea or of Wadi el-IIatrun. I realize that you are very busy making your future millions in Southern Arabia, but it is also essential thai you should give some time to other projects which would be extremely beneficial to the already established scientific reputation of your great Foundation, Here, all you need to do is is to give us the implements and material and let me attend myself to the execution of the project Itself. And how far have you gone into the Oil projects here? Since my return, I have not contacted anyone yet, and I would lik#' to know trie position from you before I do so. Perhaps you can drop me a few notes on this matter. I keep reading news in the local press about developments in the field of the oil business in these parts, and I always think of you whenever I hear such talk. I was extremely sorry to know that Prof. Albright had been stiff er-ing for some time. 3a should really sive himself a good holiday for complete recuperation. He is a most invaluable personality, and his good health is as important to the world of scholarship as it is for his own self. I look forward to your next visit to Egypt. Then we can compare notes, news and projects for the benefit of the human race. 3o I expect to see your handwriting in the near future. With my best personal Galaams. Very sincerely, Ik Sharla Wad! el-Wil 23 : 6//6( Maadi + Cairo, Egypt June 3, 19*k Aziz 3, Atiya |
