Show 14, Sharia Wadi el-Nil, "aadi (Near Cairo), Esyot, July 30, 1952. % dear Wendell, It has been a great pleasure receiving your kind letter cf July 20, and I am writing at once to thank you for all your kind consideration towards my modest services tc the Mount Sinai Expedition. Let me assure you that any collaboration with your Foundation and with Professor Albright and yourself is an honour which I shall always welcome. Mr. Verner W. Glapp of the Library cf Congress has also written to me some time ago about the possibilities which you have kindly outlined in your letter with regard to the publication of my new volume in your Foundation Series at the Princeton University Press. Without hesitation I accept this privilege and leave the rest in your hands. In the meantime, you have my full authorization to write in your own name such a Forward as you may deem fit tc this volume. As you have rightly remarked, I have kept my own account within the limits of my editorial Jurisdiction in the field of the Arabic material. But the Expedition achievement la undoubtedly of a wider nature, and it will be necessary to give a fuller description of the whole project from another angle. I am sure that you are the right person to do thi^, and it is only normal that your name should be associated with the work. I shall look forward to hearing of any further developments in this matter and you can always count on my goodwill for collaboration with you. Events have been moving too fast, in Egypt during the last few days. I expect that you have followed our news closely and with interest. The change of cur political regime has passed without bloodshed and everything around is in oerfect peace, so much so that you can hardly detect the magnitude of these occurrences from the actual state of the country. We expect from our American friends to support our action in attempting to turn'Epypt really into a democratic country. However, I firmly believe that the present condition of things will be even more favorable to our cultural collaboration with America. I trust that you will be able to visit us in Egypt in the near future. Then we can discuss possibilities of further work, and I can arrange for you to meet some of the outstanding personalities of the country under the new regime, I think that this is indispensable, I hope to write to Professor Albright before very long. At this end, we never forget the Albrights and we often speak about them at home. Please convey to the Professor my most cordial greetings and kindest remembrances. Xith our very best wishes and much appreciation to your person, Believe me, Yours very sincerely. :... , A. A a |
