Atiya, 14 Sharia Wadi el-Nil Maadi (Near Cairo) Egypt. Dear Professor Atiya: Forgive my not writing for some time, however I have been out on an extensive lecture tour in Tennessee, Texas and California. While out in California, the President and Trustees of the University of Redlands one of the leading Universities in Southern California, presented me with the degree Doctor of Literature, Litt.D. in recognition of the work of our expeditions, for which of course I was very pleased. I won't take time to give you all the information at this time with regard to everything that has been going on here in the States, in that I am leaving in the next week or so for South Arabia, and I will only have a few hours in Cairo on my way through, and would be grateful if you could meet me at the airport and we could have a visit for a short time in between flights. I want to bring you up to date with regard to everything and we could make some huried plans in that I will only be in Arabia two or three weeks, at the most before returning to Cairo for a visit of several days. I will be bringing with me a personal letter from President Eisenhower to General Naguib, and I will be accompanied by several important Americans who I'm taking out to South Arabia at this time. I will cable you my arrival date so that we can get together. Please accept my best wishes and greetings and please remember me to Mrs. Atiya. I won't take more time now to go into details in that I will be seeing you very soon. Best personal wishes. |
