Show 1924 UTONIAN School of Arts and Sciences HE School of Arts and Sciences aims at breadth of education in both scholarship and culture. Its students are not trained for particular professions, yet they are prepared for leadership in the great movements of civilization. The School feels that development of character is of first importance and, therefore, that its chief objective is the production of men and women who are honest, loyal, and devoted to truth. Subjects are not taught as an end in themselves, rather for their effect upon the students who are pursuing them; in other words, students themselves are regarded as of far greater importance than the courses of study they are following. The outstanding need of the world is men and women of learning, culture, loyalty, morality, and belief in God-men and women who can assume leadership in all these fields, An educational institution has not done its full duty when it has prepared its students to make a living; it must teach them how to live and to help others to live.
