Show I THE SQUAD SWIMMING C HATTERING three state records the University of Utah aquatic representatives won the State Collegiate swimming meet held at Uogan on March 17th. Utah made a total of 31 points, Brigham Young University 21 points and Utah Agricultural College 11 points. This is the second consecutive year that the Utah swimmers have won the state championship. George Nelson, captain and one of the best swimmers that Utah has ever boasted, did the majority of the scoring for Utah and was high point man of the meet. He made a total of \2]/2 points, taking first in the 60 yard back stroke, second in the 40 yard free style and 100 yard free style. He was also on the winning relay team. Nelson in the 60 yard back stroke broke the state record. He made the three lengths in 44 seconds, clipping three seconds off the old mark. Lee Christensen, Utah athlete, clipped four seconds off the 220 yard mark by swimming that distance in 2:43. Melvin Freebairn, Utah swimmer, went over the 40 yard back stroke distance in 30 2-5 seconds, setting a new mark. Page One Hundred Ninety-Six |
