Show 33 pitting himself against the granite walls in Cottonwood Canyon. One of his first poems was entitled "Suspension." When Mrs. Simpson began reading it to the class, Dyna thought he was writing about her kind of suspension, but that wasn't what the poem was about at all* Dyna studied the opposite wall which was covered by pegboard and a coiled rope. It was also festooned with weird shapes of climbing gear and a narrow pick-ax of some sort. How could someone so timid with people be so gutsy on a wall of rock? Dyna shuddered thinking about it. She then walked across the rec room, peeking into a blue and yellow room, obviously a girl's; the one next to it, an office or study. Everything smelled new, expensive! Dyna took note of the windows, the position of the screens and catches, without thinking what she was doing. Suddenly, she realized she was casing Parker's house! Mentally, she slapped her hands and forced herself back to lean on the bathroom door. "Tiffany!" she groaned. "Are you taking a bath in there?" "Dyna, don't look so gloomy," Mrs. Simpson said once they were in her small car heading for the city. "Cripes! You shouldn't have to take me home!" Dyna folded her arms over her chest and glared at the passing scenery. It really pissed her that Parker's mom had blabbed everything to Mrs. Simpson. "It's not just a fuddy-duddy opinion, you know. Hitch hiking really isn't safe." "It's educational," Dyna retorted. Mrs. Simpson laughed. "I'm sure it is! But, look, I want to take you home. Do you mind?" Dyna glanced sideways at Mrs. Simpson. "I guess not," she mumbled. "But it'll be miles out of your way. I live downtown, right next to Liberty Park." "Hey, we're almost neighbors!" "No shit? I mean . . . excuse me! . . ." Dyna smacked herself in the mouth with her towel roll. Then, clearing her throat, she began again. "Where might you live?" she asked, sounding exactly like one of Aunt Grace's English classics. "I have an apartment on the Avenues. I should say that Timmy and I do." "I guess your husband works downtown, huh?" Dyna couldn't imagine |
