Show UTAH FINE ARTS CONTEST Class E-l: Young Adult Book GROWING STRAIGHT Dyna leaned against the drinking fountain, studying classroom 112 from a safe distance. Two boys walked past her, entered the room laughing. The tall one tossed his notebook onto a desk, then sat down on top another, letting his long legs dangle. He belongs, thought Dyna, whose eyes narrowed as she tried to make out the emblem on his obviously new T-shirt. Just then a girl joined the boys from somewhere in the room. The kid with the emblem grabbed her around the waist, causing her to squeal. Dyna looked away. The jeans her grandmother bought her at K Mart for the first day of school were suddenly too hot, too stiff. Generic jeans, she thought, amused in spite of herself. She walked away. She couldn't stall any longer. In twenty minutes the first bell of the school year would sound at Bonneville High. So 1^ begin my senior year spying on my first period class. How quaint I What am 1^ doing that for? |
