Dyna more or less shuffled her way to a seat, directly in front of Parker and behind Tammy. Her hat immediately hid Parker from view. When the class quieted again, Mrs. Simpson began passing out a set of textbooks, telling them to turn first to page 82. Handing a book back to Parker, the new girl began a frantic whispering to find out what was going on. "What'd I miss?" she asked. He shrugged, took the book. She hadn't missed anything yet, but she might if she didn't turn around. "Hey, you . . ." she waved her hand in front of him, "I'm talking to you. What'd I miss?" Parker felt the red creeping up both sides of his neck. "Dyna, may I help you with something?" the teacher jumped in. "Yeah," she said, facing front. She shook her thumb back at Parker. "What's the matter with him? You got a real friendly bunch here, Simpson." "You don't always trust your first impressions, do you, Suggs?" Dyna turned around to look at Parker again, her funny face broadening. She easily teased him into grinning back. "Point6 for her, huh?" Dyna whispered, chalking up the score. Then, without being asked, she pulled off her hat and stuffed it down on the seat beside her. Simultaneously, she blew Parker's cover: Mrs. Simpson, everyone else, reappeared before him.
