Show 41 "Last week we picked up a Luhan Marshall on suspicion of burglary. We have reason to believe there's a connection between this break-in we're investigating and one that occurred early in September. We thought you might be able to help us." "Lou Ann Marshall?" her voice was squeaky with relief. She didn't know anyone by that name. "Who's she?" "Luhan's a h_e. Better known on the streets as 'Frog.'" Damn! Dyna felt the flush in her cheeks. They knew she'd pulled jobs with Frog. That's how she landed in kiddie court the first time. "Yeah, I know Frog," she admitted. "When was the last time you saw him?" She shrugged. "Not for a long time. Look, I'm clean. I'm doing great in school and I don't think you guys oughta keep bludgeoning me with my record." "Be specific. When was the last time you saw him?" "Last March, of course, when I got picked up." She looked down at her hands. "Maybe once since, I don't know. Tell you the truth, I hope I never see him again." That part was sincere, anyway. "Were you in school the first day? That would be--" he checked a calendar on the wall, "Monday, September 2nd. You in attendance that day, Dyna?" "Off and on." "A straight answer, please." "Well, you know. I may have cut out to smoke a couple a times." Another lie. She didn't smoke. "You were transferred to Bonneville on a 'conditional,' right? And you want to tell me you were cutting classes the first day?" "Man, you know how it is! How'd I know if I'd like it there? I had to meet all the elements, didn't I?" Dyna felt prickly under her arms. How far was he going to go with this first-day business? "What classes did you skip?" Dyna shrugged. "That was a long time ago. I couldn't even tell you, for sure." She knew he didn't believe her- He gave her this long, pointy look, then he pulled a paper out of the file. "Well, two- teachers showed you present, two absent, one didn't have any idea. Don't teachers keep roll anymore?" |
