Show 31 "I think," Mrs. Simpson went on, "we ought to spend some time brainstorming today. And the story we come up with . . . you know . . . should probably involve teenagers. Or have a young person as the main character." Greg: "How come?" Amy: "Remember? 'You write best about what you know.'" Kate Simpson took a sip of black coffee while Greg and Amy tossed the assumption around. "So what comes to mind? Speak up. What are some topics?" Kate asked when she got a chance. "Not rape, I hope," said Jan, "I've seen a jillion shows on rape!" "Hey, why not?" Jeff Glotz giggled. "I think rape's a terrific idea!" Anzak grinned condescendingly at Jeff. Either we have to anticipate the trends or we should stick with a timeless subject." "We can't do something they've already done, either," Debbie added, always the practical one. Kate nodded. "I should tell you that Barbara is sending us a li6t of past programs, as well as some scripts and a sample step outline. Really, it isn't as hard as it seems. We'll take it one day at a time, with no rush on the big decisions-" Her gesture said the rest: duck soup. "It's my opinion, judging from the poetry you wrote last month and the talent I see exhibited every day in class, that you can write a meaningful, dramatic script. What do you say?" Dyna hadn't said anything since Kate Simpson arrived on the scene and not much earlier either. Now she joined in the noisy celebration as everyone clapped and cheered and Glotz jumped up and down and Kevin's dog whistle split everyone'8 ear drums. Once more it felt terrific being a part of this group. Momentarily, she forgot that she was too fat and socially inept for a pool party. The next hour, over pizza, they plotted and planned.
