Sweazy, <br> Salt Lake City, Utah. <br> Westminster College. <br><br> My dear Mr. Sweazy [sic],- <br><br> Some days ago a telegram was received by Mrs. Darwin R. James from Prof. Caskey nominating you as his successor. The telegram came to the office, and was sent immediately to Mrs. James' residence in Brooklyn. The first visit of Mrs. James to the office enabled us to hold a conference; the result of which was your unanimous choice for the principalship of the Salt Lake City Collegiate Institute. Mrs. James wired Mr. Caskey to the effect immediately. <br><br> It only remains therefore for me to give you official notice of you appointment as principal of the Collegiate Institute, which I take great pleasure in doing. When I was in Salt Lake City last August Mr. Caskey resigned. In forwarding his letter of resignation, I enclosed one also recommending you as his successor. Form Salt Lake City I went into New Mexico and Arizona and did not hear directly from the office for several weeks. When news reached me it was to the effect that you had declined the appointment, and that Mr. Caskey seeing the difficulty of securing a proper successor so late in the season, had decided to remain with us another year. Your name therefore was not thought of in connection with the position at the time Prof. Caskey sent in his last resignation. We were very glad to hear from the above mentioned telegram that you were available. <br> [Continues on next page.] <br><br> |
