Show ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I thank my advisor Dr. Kris Sikorski and my committee members Dr. Gerard T. Schuster and Dr. Frank Stenger for their continuous assistance and support. I am deeply indebted to Dr. Sikorski for years of guidance and support and countless and invaluable ideas and suggestions. He is the main reason I have enrolled in this program. He has proposed and outlined many of the ideas explored in this work and suggested alternatives when I ran short of ideas. Dr. Schuster, who was my advisor for my first master's degree, has been a teacher, a supporter, and a friend for a decade now and has played a big role in directing me toward getting this degree.
