| Abstract |
Mr. Zucker (b. 1895) discusses the emigration of his parents from Poland, their life in Philadelphia, and political leanings. He recalls his education in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, his move to Salt Lake City to join the English faculty at the University of Utah, and life in the Jewish community. Also included are stories of various Jewish families, his experiences teaching Sunday school, the Maimonides, Jewish students and faculty at the University in the 1930s and 1940s, Jewish politics and culture, and the life of Judge Herbert Schiller. |

Show LOUIS ZUCKER #3 alarmed. Maybe I should not tell this, but for the record it is interesting; this is socially interesting. Her parents regard themselves as aristocrats. HR: Yes. Well he sat on the stock exchange. LZ: Mr. Kohn still has a seat on the New York Stock Exchange. Mrs. Kohn, who is a sister to Abe Sakier, regards herself as a great lady. Mr. Kohn claimed to be a "Sephardic grandee". HR: Oh, really? LZ: Yes. They had great ideas for Janet, you know. Here she is going with a boy whose father rose from the junkyard. So they came out here, and they were quite alarmed. They tried to break this up, but by that time Janet was enmeshed with Art. She would not give up Art. Of course, Art was terribly in love with her, and they still are. They are very much in love with each other to this day. HR: Well you know, their daughter Linda must now be a--. LZ: She is about twenty. HR: Sure. LZ: Art and Janet, that marriage was made in heaven. Of course, they always give us the credit. They will say to us, my wife and me, "You bring people together."
